Welcome to your Caregiver Support Group Pages!

The Caregiver support group meets at the Center for Living once a month 2:30-3:30 p.m.  The Transplant Support Group is led by Transplant Social Worker Ellen Stone and the once a month Caregiver Support Group is led by Volunteer Zann Snyder.

Zann has agreed to write an article from the topics discussed in the Caregiver Support Group meetings.  We hope you find this information beneficial.  If you have further questions related to the discussions please send Zann an email through the Duke Lung Transplant Friends email - dukelungs@charter.net .  You may also contact transplant Social Worker Ellen Stone.

Due to the lack of a Transplant Social Worker the Caregivers Support Group has been suspended.

If Caregivers would like to continue the Caregivers Support Group someone will likely need to step up to the plate and organize one separate from Duke.  To be able to do this the person who desires to start the group should choose a permanent meeting place and time (ask the Center for Living if you can meet there once a week during the lung transplants patients regular rehab time before their support group meets).  As your time in Durham comes to an end and you prepare to move back home, pass off the group to another member who is willing to continue to lead the group.  It just takes a little initiative!

Providing care for a lung transplant patient is an extremely stressful, demanding and challenging responsibility.  We need to help one another by sharing and passing on our experiences and knowledge to those who come after us.  The more knowledgeable we are, the better prepared we will be to provide the best care possible to our loved ones which will help them recover.  It will also help us as caregivers survive too.

To lead a Caregivers Support Group you do not have to be an eloquent or skilled speaker or teacher.  What you need is the desire and willingness to keep it going.  If you need help and suggestions in getting a new group started please contact the webmaster at:
